John (Jay) McCauley
Professional Experience:
John (Jay) McCauley has served exclusively as an arbitrator and mediator of domestic and international business disputes for the past twenty-five years. He is an honors graduate of Harvard Law School and a former partner of a large, international law firm, where he litigated a broad range of cases, including complex commercial, employment, construction, healthcare, insurance, education, intellectual property and real property matters, including class actions.
Mr. McCauley is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and of the College of Commercial Arbitrators (CCA), a Distinguished Fellow (Emeritus) of the International Academy of Mediators (IAM), and a Member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN). He serves as member of the Board of Directors of the CCA, and was an editor of the current Edition of The College of Commercial Arbitrators Guide to Best Practices in Commercial Arbitration (Fourth Edition).
Mr. McCauley has taught courses in Arbitration Law over the last twenty years as an adjunct professor at Pepperdine, Loyola, UMKC and Creighton Law Schools, and has been a program speaker on ADR topics in multiple venues throughout the world, sponsored by (among others) the USC/JAMS Advanced Arbitration Institute, the London chapter of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the University of Galway, the College of Commercial Arbitrators, the American Arbitration Association, and the CLE divisions of Pepperdine (Straus Institute), UMKC and Creighton Law Schools. He was also a participant in the ten-day 2013 session of the International Arbitration Academy Program at the National University of Singapore.
Mr. McCauley has been continuously listed for the past fifteen year in Best Lawyers in America in the field of ADR, which named him “Lawyer of the Year” in the field of Mediation for the San Jose region in 2013, and for Los Angeles in 2021. He has been a commercial arbitrator on the national roster of the American Arbitration Association since 1998, where he serves on the Commercial, Real Property and Construction, Employment, Healthcare, Large Complex Case (LCCP) and Class Action panels. He is also on the roster of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR).
