Professional Experience:

Judge David is currently Of Counsel with the firm of Baker Sterchi Cowden & Rice in St. Louis. Prior to joining the firm he served as a Circuit Court Judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit of Missouri (St. Louis) from 1989 – January, 2015. During his tenure on the bench he helped settle and tried hundreds of civil cases to verdict, from those involving claims of medical malpractice, products liability, railroad employment (FELA), contract, employment discrimination to simple motor vehicle accidents. He also coordinated and managed more than 100 similarly situated but separately filed FELA cases – some resulting in trials, settlements and arbitrations. He also managed and presided over complex tobacco litigation, including one case that involved nearly sixty parties with product liability claims against ten tobacco companies and a class-action involving Missouri Merchandising Practices Act. Each of these cases involved years of pre-trial motion practice, jury selections beginning with thousands of prospective jurors and multi-month trials. He received his J.D. in 1977 from St. Louis University School of Law where he served on the Law Journal and his B.S. in Business Administration, magna cum laude, from the University of Missouri-St. Louis where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma (National Business Honor Society).

Prior to his appointment to the bench he was a Member of the Missouri House of Representatives serving 4 terms representing downtown and the historic near south side of St. Louis. He was also engaged in the private practice of law with a small firm for over ten years handling a variety of matters ranging from small business representation to personal injury cases and spent two years as an Assistant Public Defender. From 1981-1983 Judge David served on the Board of Commissioners for the St. Louis Public Housing Authority.

Judge David is active in the legal community as a member of the Lawyers Association of St. Louis, the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis and the Theodore McMillian American Inn of Court.
